Join Highland-based acclaimed Gaelic singer, Brian Ó hEadhra, to learn Scottish Gaelic songs each week online. You will learn traditional and new Gaelic songs in an enjoyable and informative manner. Course material includes òrain luaidh (waulking songs), port-à-beul (mouth music), ballads, and more. Bidh fàilte bhlàth romhaibh / All very welcome!
The course is aimed at both Gaelic learners and fluent speakers. We will concentrate on pronunciation, musical delivery and song/cultural provenance. Students are encouraged to ask questions and we use online resources such as Tobar an Dualchais to research the material and hear archive recordings.
You will sing on mute (don't worry!) and lyrics will be provided on screen for you to follow under guidance from Brian. The class is delivered in both English and Gàidhlig and made accessible to all (whatever your knowledge of Gaelic).

"Because of your online classes in both Gaelic song and conversation, I have taken the plunge and joined both Stirling Gaelic choir and An Cùrsa Inntrigidh (immersion course) at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig (Gaelic College). Without first having participated in your classes, I doubt I would have had the confidence to try these new things, and so thank you very much."
"I haven’t sung for many, many years and have never consider myself to have a good voice (despite coming from a musical family where singing was the norm) - but I’m finding your classes are just perfect. You have such a warm and supportive teaching style. I’m very pleased to be on mute but actually suspect I’m improving - I think! It’s definitely helping with my Gaelic pronunciation. I wish other courses used song as an approach to pronunciation instead of the rather dreary pronunciation classes."
"I want to thank you so much for the Gaelic singing course. Your knowledge & method of discussing & analyzing each song for us was brilliant. It was as interesting & beneficial as singing the song itself, and I feel, as important. My level of Gaelic is very very basic, but that did not hinder my interest & enthusiasm to want to learn as much as I could. Your method of delivery is very pleasant & non intimidating, so that is a wonderful environment in which to learn."
"I really enjoyed your Seinn Air Loidhne Online Gaelic Song class. I thought it was taught in such a way that it was accessible to those with no, little or fluent Gaelic."
No, each class is delivered in English and Gaelic and you will be guided in pronunciation with translations provided. However, some level of Gaelic knowledge would be advantageous. Ma tha a' Ghàidhlig agad, nach cleachd thu i!
Children may attend if they are accompanied by there parent/carer.
You do not have to be heard throughout the class as you sing on mute and no one will hear you. You are welcome to sing a song towards the end of the class if the tutor requests a song from participants.
You will be emailed the Zoom link a day before the first class starts. Please use this same link for accessing the class each week.
